[pchelpers] Re: Repairing IE5

Hi Tonia:& Eric: I have Win 2000 Professional also-- and am running
iexplorer 6.0 128 encryption--You can use the uninstall a selection will
come up repair or the uninstall of iexplorer , you can choose to do either.
One time I had a corrupted dll no matter what I did the browser crashed on
me-- I had to wipe everything to do with that version and start fresh,
meanwhile before you do that I suggest you download Opera--its small and
very fast browser--and very handy when the iexplorer is down.. Before you
uninstall your iexplorer I suggest also you save your mail and addresses if
you are using Outlook Express. ---Sometimes it won't uninstall Outlook
Express if you still have an older version-- just incase though I would
not take that chance. I found the version 6.0 much more stable than the
version 5.5--- of course there are security patches that go with that
version too. Jackie

Oops...sorry Eric, I was thinking of Win98! If you are using Office 2000
(which includes IE 5.5 I think) and have the CDROM handy, you can do a
repair by running your Office 2000 setup and when prompted select the repair
option. If that doesn't help, you can select IE from the CD and reinstall
it. Alternatively, you can run Windows Update and select the SP2 for IE 5.5
from Product Updates.

Hope that helps.

Tonia

Hi Tonia

Thanks for your input, Tonia. However Win 2000 Professional doesn't list IE
as one of the programs in the "Add/Remove Programs" menu. I used in
Windows98SE sometime back. How I wish the MS wouldn't chop and change from
utilities that run well just for the sake of "upgrading"!!

Regards

Eric

Look for IE there and then click Add/Remove and from the resulting dialog
box select Repair.
