Three things to keep in mind:
First, Remote Desktop is for XP Professional only, not Home.
Second, it's not quite the same as Remote Assistance, which can be
used with XP Home, and I think someone must be on the receiving end to
approve the connection for RA.
Third, Remote Desktop does not provide a VPN connection. The article
does not say whether RD encrypts the data or not, so you might want to
check.
