Thanks. I have tried all of those things that you mention and I did forget  
that I learned from someone how to get into safe mode with msconfig:)

Try this: turn the computer ON, then immediately begin  tapping the F8
key (or F5 key) about once a second.  Some people don't  start tapping
early enough, or stop early.

If it does not work, then  shut the computer down again and turn it
back on and immediately hold down  the left shift key.  If you get a
message about a stuck key, bypass  the message and then immediately
hold the shift key down again.

If  that still does not work, click on Start, Run, and type MSCONFIG.
If  MSCONFIG runs (not all versions of Windows have it), there will be
an  option for "Diagnostic Startup"; select that and click Ok.

If a  supposed tech tells you that you do need keyboard software (or
video card  software or whatever the problem is) BEFORE Windows starts up,
then go find  a REAL tech. I once had a Packard Bell phone support tech
(on the support  line for field techs) tell me that I needed to install
the Windows drivers  in order to fix a video problem in the BIOS setup.

The only keyboards  that you need software for are wireless keyboards
(note that Windows Vista  has support for wireless keyboards), and if
you want to use the special  keys that some keyboards have.
