Hi Morris,
When I was using Windows 98 SE I would get that same error message 
whenever I tried to run scandisk with the computer in normal mode. The 
solution is to run scandisk with the computer in "safe mode". Now, if 
you don't know how to put your computer in "Safe Mode" perhaps someone 
here can explain it to you. I have forgotten how it is done.
