You may not have other programs running, but windows has. Add to that 
anything that started automatically when windows did (could be lots of 
things). A utility like Startup Control can help you preset that. I 
could email you a copy as an attachment if you wish.
As for the message, tell it to not keep showing this message. Many users 
are accustomed to seeing it.

Tell me about it. I'm trying to replace it with windows 98 at the moment 
on my laptop. At least the older one is easily repairable. When 
something goes wrong with ME, just reinstall it again (MS idea).
