[pchelpers] Re: Re Antivirus

Yes on that note I totally agree, for those that have used it it is much
much easier.
On several times I have had to explain during a tech call where the
Start button was.
One call I got went like this.
"My buttons don't work."
"have you tried pushing it"
"yes but it does nothing"
"is the computer plugged in"
"yes but the button still does nothing"
"Is the green light on around the button"
"there is no light at all around the button"
"then that means that the computer is not getting power"
"no I can see the button but when I push it nothing happens"
"yes I know you can see it but there has to be a green or yellow light
in the button for the power to be on"
"No the power is on because I can see the other buttons...I can see the
yard and the sky..."
"the other buttons?"
"yes there are buttons all over the yard and sky and when I push those
nothing happens either."
"are the buttons square and in the "TV'"
"yes all over it"
"those are icons to start a program not buttons and you have to click on
them twice fast.
Well she was mad I made her feel stupid by telling her they we icons,
but from that day forward I learned that most computer users are
extreamly novice and to be very careful about correcting them. I reflect
back on my first Windows 3.11 system. I knew DOS inside out and thought
3.11 was a no brainer so I forwent the RTM and started using it. My
first and last call to tech support that I can remember.
"My box is off the screen how do I get it back?"
"Left click and hold the button down on the title bar"
"what is the title bar"
"The blue bar at the top that has the name on the left"
I clicked and drug it back and felt so stupid I RTMed that night.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
