[pchelpers] Random shut down

My husbands' motherboard died. We decided to upgrade the MB and CPU. After
installing this, the computer would shut down or reboot randomly. Thinking
the MB and CPU were bad - we sent it back for another one. This one did it
too.......we did this THREE times. Now, thinking the components were at
fault, we began replacing first the case and power supply, then the video
card, then the harddrive, then we disconnected the CDrom and the Floppy
drive. It still rebooted or shut down. At first the Event Log said it
was: Category 102, Event ID 1003. I searched the web for similar problems
in newsgroups......many had it, but no solution. I changed the setting so
the blue screen would come up instead of shutting down, hoping to identify
the problem better......but it doesn't show the blue screen either. I added
another module of 512MB of memory (1GB total). It still shuts down....one
time after 11 hours, (but only once did it go that long) most times after
15 minutes, over and over. Now the Event Log gives no info as to an error
or warning, it just does it. In order to boot again, you have to turn it
off at the surge protector and then back on. This project started out to
be around $200 has now escalated unbelievably.........and it still is not
fixed. Any help appreciated. Using XP Pro.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
