Well, as i said, many people feel it is actually better than Word. It
may take a week or two to get used to it because not all things are in
the same places or done the same way, but it is missing only very few
features, and none of these are normally used by normal users. And it
has many features not in Word and not even in all of Microsoft Office.
For a description, see www.openoffice.org/product

OpenOffice is actually more compatible with old versions of Word than
Word itself is!

If you're happy with Works, you perhaps don't need either Word nor
OpenOffice's equivalent, Writer, but it doesn't hurt to install
OpenOffice. It has the equivalent and compatible programs to PowerPoint
and Excel and allows you to convert a document to PDF, among many other
features.

OpenOffice will not mess anything up. You can choose which kind of files
it should be the default program for, and this can be changed later too.
Even if you choose to use Works or WordPad as your default word
processor, you can open any file using OpenOffice by just rightclicking
and choosing Open With.

To download OpenOffice, just click on the big link called "download
openoffice" in the middle of the main page http://www.openoffice.org

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
