I guess i'm either talking nonsense or incorrectly remembering the 
situation a few years back. Or maybe the price of the unbundled product 
was so close to that of the whole suite that it in essence meant one had 
to or should buy the whole thing.

Now the cheapest version of the whole suite costs 400 USD

and Word alone costs 230 USD

In any case, that's such an incredible amount of money more than the 
zero dollars for OpenOffice and other programs that it's quite amazing 
word about the good alternatives to Word has still not got around to 
many people. This is especially amazing because OpenOffice has quite a 
few features that Word and Office do not have, and the few features of 
Word that OpenOffice does not have are either coming soon or not 
relevant for normal users.
