[pchelpers] Re: Purchasing external CD-RW

Gil,

You didn't mention how you were connecting the device to your laptop. Is it
USB? I think that's a lot of device and at an attractive price. I'm with
John D. give it a go and see if it will function with your laptop. I caution
you on the Nero software. I have heard many horror stories about Nero. Just
my 2 cents.

Subject: [pchelpers] Purchasing external CD-RW

I need an external device on which I could use to
access my files and also store backups. My
laptop currently has less than 10 megs of space
less, hence the need for additional media.

I've been looking at external CD-RW drives as a
solution to this problem and found that wanted an
opinion on a sale Tiger Direct is having on a CD-
RW for $50 which has the following specs:

CD-Rewritable Drive 40x12x40 with Nero 5.5
CD Creation Software!
Read/Write Speed Write:17X/40X (CAV read
only)
Rewrite: 12X; Read: 40X
Burst :
- 16.6 MB/sec (PIO Mode 4/DMA Mode 2)
- 33.3 MB/sec (UDMA Mode 2)
Access Time: 120ms Random Average
Buffer: 4MB Buffer Underrun Prevention (BURN-
Proof)

Is this a decent machine and deal. Any thoughts
would be much appreciated.

Thanks

gil

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
