Modern power supplies are usually 20 or 24 pin (for standard desktop 
PCs). Where you get 40 pin connectors are on CD drives and their 
relatives. Those drives generally have 4 pin power connectors. The 40 
pin ribbon connectors are data, not power. I could not find much 
physical spec data on line for it, but there is some data on memory and 
SATA hard drives here:
