It came in a SOYO brand computer I got from a friend 6 or 7 years ago.

I can trigger them by running A- Squared Anti-Malware Free. But they
have happened when the system was basically idle. Last night I took out
a memory stick, ran A-Squared, and got the BSOD. Then I switched memory
sticks, ran A-Squared and got no BSOD.I thought the problem was solved.
I left the first memory stick out and rebooted the computer. Almost
immediately after rebooting I got a BSOD and I hadn't even done anything
yet. I put the memory stick that I had taken out back in so that I'm
running at 512 MB again.
Since I read that anti-virus software can cause this problem I have AVG,
Spyware Doctor, and Spybot Teatimer turned off.

Yes, it happens even in safe mode.

When this began was right after a clean install of WinXP SP1. There were
no non-Microsoft drivers running on the PC. On my first clean install of
the OS I successfully installed SP2. That didn't stop the BSODs. On my
second clean install of the OS I tried installing SP2 but got a BSOD
right in the middle of installation and had to do a system restore.
After that I tried getting drivers for all devices from the
manufacturers that were supposed to be updated for use with Win XP. Do
you want me to roll back all the OEM drivers to the Microsoft drivers?
This was happening with all Microsoft drivers at the beginning.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
