Re-Na,
I typed into google "winsock cable modem" looked around a bit and found
this. Maybe it will work in your case.
"I'm a contractor and I have your answer. it is in the registry, goto HKEY
local machine, system, current control set, services, then REMOVE the
winsock2 key. close out. right click on network neighborhood(my network
placed) and remove your network card/modem drivers, also may have to remove
all TCPIP drivers. Then restart, when it reinstalls TCPIP and your nic card
drivers it will rebuild the winsock2 and fix 99 percent of these problems.
I've noticed it usually occurs in upgrades or systems that did use internet
connection sharing, feel free to email me with questions or comments.
