It often takes a few seconds for it to show the CPU type and speed and
memory size. It seems to take longer for Vista, for some reason.

I'm not sure, but I think the minimum is 512MB, although if someone
actually bought a Vista laptop with that little memory, I'd have to
accuse them of masochism. :) I'd recommend at least 1GB, preferably
2GB. 3 would be great. You're not going to get your money's worth out
of 4GB unless you have a 64-bit version of Windows.
