[pchelpers] Re: PCI Modem

The older computers had two different cpus. They first came out
with your Pentium class cpus. Then they added the MMX to the
later ones. (Mainly Intel and AMD)
The PCI modem that you got is a software modem. Meaning that
it runs with software and your computer hardware. I would bet that
if you look at the specs it would say you need a cpu with MMX.

What you need is a hardware modem, meaning all the hardware
needed is on the modem itself. In other words you need a ISA modem
with jumpers. These are very hard to find now adays.

But it so happens that I have a box of used ISA 56K jumpered USR
modems. Are in interested in one?

  Subject: [pchelpers] PCI Modem

I have a coputer about 5 years old and it's always used a 16 bit ISA
  slot on com3,

it went bad so I purchased a V92 PCI modem but when Itry to
install it , I get a message saying
the CPU has no MMX can't find MMX

is there some option or update I need to put ibn or is the modem not
  compatible with my
  processor ?

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
