Hiya
I don't mean to disprove the claim about surge
protectors, but just wanted to cite an experience.
A friend of mine lost everything to lightning...his
computer, scanner, printer and phone. He had this
surge protector which the vendor guaranteed would
protect his equipment against lightning.
The good news was that the vendor paid up and he got
back a new computer, scanner, printer and phone. Maybe
some surge protectors just don't perform as expected.
I don't know. But I'd rather unplug because the hard
disk might get toasted so bad that data recovery would
be impossible!
Just my 2¢ worth.
