What do you mean when you say "only one unit"?

Generally, you can use a cable splitter and two short lengths of cable
(available at stores which carry audiovisual parts, such as
RadioShack), and thus have both a converter box and a PC tuner hooked
up at the same time.

I'm not sure what it is that John is talking about, but you don't
usually need to have to watch the show in order to record it.

ATI's software is specific for their cards, as far as I know. Also,
they use a proprietary media file (played by, of course, their player
software) in order to record the closed caption. I don't know if
software from other vendors also much record to a proprietary format
in order to save the closed captioning.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
