Why should replacing the cable box cause the PC tuner to stop working?

I prefer to answer John's questions here.  The PC tuner is attached to the 
coaxial cable on only ONE unit.  It records only what is on the screen and 
records TV programs on my PC.  I am using Hauppauge which has better software 
on their website.  I learned that ATI Corporation makes software to convert the 
video with captions.  But ATI makes so much software and their website does not 
explain the function I have to see whether the local computer stores have it.

For Scott question I could install. a cable converter box where the computer is 
but I do not have a TV for it.  And the cable company will not provide the 
cable to connect the converter box to the PC.  

I do not want to prolong this thread.  I will investigate ATI software
