I have both Ad-aware and Spybot and neither complain about anything, =
also it
is a new Laptop on which the only things I have installed are XP-Pro =
upgrade
a couple of known good utilities, and Office XP. Interestingly after
installing only the XP Pro upgrade and nothing else I installed the =
Adaware
and SpyBot and it already had a few things it recommended to delete, =
which I
did (nothing very nasty). I assume these were in the Sony OEM software.
The only thing I am wonDering that could have messed up something is =
that I
did install Office 2003 briefly, and de-installed it before I ever used =
it,
then installed the Office XP instead. One of the techos here who did =
some
troubleshooting said there still seemed to be some references to the =
Office
2003 in the registry - i.e it was not totally gone.
I also have Eudora 6 on the same PC which works fine.

This could be another spyware case. Have you tried scanning with Adaware =
or installing Spyware Blaster? What I suspect is these little programs=20
are running in the background sending stuff over the internet=20
connection. It usually slows down other programs and causes some =
hangups.
