[pchelpers] Re: Operating systems

I get some worrying feelings from this suggestion. No-one can deny that
any hard drive is susceptable to normal wear and tear, virus/spyware
attacks etc. That's why we do maintainance and have antivirus programs.
In view of this, the idea of putting the operating system on a 'hidden'
partition means taking it out of the user's control altogether. If
anything goes wrong (one simple file error), all you may be able to do
is restore the whole thing from the CD. So much for configuring the
system to do what you want it to do. If such configuration were to be
practical, the files would need to be somewhere you could alter and
update them. This rules out a hidden partition- if you can do that, it's
not really hidden, is it?

That said, a CD backup is a wise precaution anytime. Am I way off the
subject here?
