I would choose thunderbird, but don't quite understand your intent. This 
choice is to do with keeping my own email on my own system. It does make 
backup easier. The only things I put on a web server are my website 
files, and even then, all of them are backed up on my system. The need 
for that has been demonstrated on numerous occasions when unexpected 
things happened on the server requiring replacement of files. Everyone 
of course is free to choose. Is that what you wanted to know?
