For Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, the format apparently hasn't changed
since Office 97. Access has apparently changed, but can be converted
back to 2000. In 2000, '97 files were read-only and had to be
converted to 2000 before they could be used. XP/2002 doesn't seem to
have a similar problem with 2000 files, but of course, if could depend
upon what options are used. I don't think Outlook has changed, but
then again, I haven't used Outlook XP in a while. I didn't bother
checking FrontPage.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
