I received a phone call from Cricket in regards to their bill
with my first name in an alternate spelling. I never ordered or
received Cricket services. Their call was after the BBB
contacted them.
The caller informed me that the perpetrator on this matter did not
use my drivers license nor my social security number. This incensed
me enough that I interrupted the caller to tell her that all I was interested
in was making sure this was not reported to a credit bureau and that I
would never receive any communication from them again. The caller
said they did not report to a credit bureau and the account would be
zeroed and closed. I am not going to go to the police station to report
a crime where probably someone took my name from the phone book.
I usually check my bank account and credit card account on a daily
basis.
I have a phone book in front of me. Could that book be a license to
steal? I doubt it as I don't know of any company that would accept
an order over the phone, then deliver the product in the manner of
this transaction. Earlier Cricket suggested that this was how the
transaction started. No doubt the perpetrator merely said his name was
"Louis", but one of the crickets wrote down "Lewis" without seeing
any document. Nothing wrong with a "Lewis", but I have never been one.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
