[pchelpers] Re: No network since sp2 updates - Linz

Hi Ekhart,

Saturday, April 23, 2005, 6:03:47 AM, you wrote:

It USED to be pushed (kinda sorta), when I was a kid, as I recall. I
don't know why they stopped. It's not like it's difficult to do:

1. Require that ALL new items (such as speed limit signs) be labelled
with metric measurements (can keep old measurements if they want).
Virtually all items in stores are already dual-labelled.

2. Require that the metric system be taught at all levels in school in
preference to the traditional system.

Probably only take about 12 years before it takes hold permanently,
and with little pain on the part of the people who grew up with the
traditional system. At that point, can start allowing the old system
to drop off of signs, etc.

At Ft Hood, I remember seeing street signs with international symbols
and kilometer markings when I was young; don't any more. I don't know
why they reverted.

Well, I certainly collected a nice list of quotes that actally apply
quite well to antivirus software and other things that people
typically have trouble with. :)

That reminds me, here's another that I used the other day:

  "It's dead."

  "But it's brand new!"

"So? That's why manufacturers have warranties, because sometimes
things are bad or outright dead when you get them."

It's amazing how many people have trouble comprehending that something
brand new might be dead/bad/whatever.

When I Googled for "Winsock Repair Tool", LSPFix was the first one
that I found which had an actual name.

I'll look at the other links later. I gotta get to work today; I'm
getting PAID overtime for about the second time ever (as opposed to
just doing what needs to be done).

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
