There's probably not much to tell, except that wireless networking is
exactly the sane as wired networking, except that you don't have wires!  You
have a network device in each computer and go from there.

The technology is relatively new and there are a number of gotchas, as Bob
has already said.  You may experience intermittent connections, etc.

Your original question was "is there an alternative?" and I replied, yes,
there is.

I would recommend spending the money on a router, network cards and cable.
It will be very reliable, easier to set up and manage, and give you faithful
service with the bonus of being able to expand the system easily.
