[pchelpers] News:Briton confesses hacking into US computers

By Wesley Johnson, PA
Monday, 12 January 2009

A Briton accused of hacking into US military computers has signed a
confession which reflects "his culpability for what he did" to avoid
extradition to the US, his lawyer said today.

Gary McKinnon, 42, faces up to 70 years in prison if he is found guilty
in the US of hacking into and damaging 97 US Navy, Army, Nasa and
Pentagon computers.

But McKinnon, who has Asperger's Syndrome, is fighting against his
extradition and has signed a confession to a different charge under the
Misuse of Computers Act in an attempt to remain in the UK.
