Possibly. They all do it eventually, however if you can re-partition the
drive and set it up again, the hardware is still fine. It must have been
file corruption or format degredation. Sometimes the old drive can't be
made to boot again (a sure sign of age creeping up). In such a case it
can be set up as a secondary (slave) drive and used for a time, letting
a newer one start the system.

I thought your problem was just a CD not starting up properly at boot up
time.
