Hmmmmmm...Not sure there.   Been a long time since I worked on a 98 machine.
I don't know if there is a setting like this or not off the top of my head,
but in XP I go to the properties of the drive and there is a place that says
to allow it to write CD's.  I uncheck it , apply, recheck it and it works.
It was kind of like the volume control in win95 sometimes.  It would be
checked to show but it wouldn't, so uncheck it, recheck it and it would show
up.  As I said, I am not sure where you would find something like that in
Win98 but you might look and see.
