I wonder if your CD burner has a bit of fluff or grit in its mechanism?
It is the sort of thing that would interrupt movement only at a certain
point and prevent normal track writing. The only way to find out is to
open it and clean then lubricate the runners and clean the head
carefully. Cleaning can be done with a cotton bud moistened with
isopropyl alcohol. After that, moisten another one with a light
cleaner/lubricant and run it gently over the runners. Don't touch the
head with it. Are you up to that?
