To begin with, it seems obvious there is an infection of some type. We 
can speculate about which one. The problem is to remove it. There is a 
good chance it is active (as indicated by the symptoms). The next step 
is removal (it may not be the only infection). This can be much harder 
if it is running at the time, so passive removal is indicated here.

To do that, you need a PC to act as scanner. It should be equipped with 
up to date and capable anti-virus and anti-spyware. With both machines 
switched off, disconnect your hard drive. Run cables to it from the 
'scanner' system. Power up the scanner and make sure it can detect your 
drive.

If all that is OK, scan the detected drive for both problems. Be 
prepared to manually delete any files that are read only. After that, 
repeat the scan. Keep doing it until you get a clean result.

Then power down and return everything to the way it was and test it. The 
problem should be history.
