Subject: [pchelpers] Messanger service

My Dad has just installed windows XP professional and since doing so
yesterday he keeps getting grey boxes appearing on his screen from woman
offering all manner of 'services'. In the top of the box, the subject bar,
it has messenger service. The pc its self the hardware i.e router and cable
modem etc has not been changed neither has any of the programs installed on
the pc, why is he receiving these messages after installing windows Xp when
he never had them while using windows 98 SE?. What can he do to stop this?
We have AVG anti virus, the router has a nat fire wall and he runs regular
updates of adware, is it possible to turn off this messenger service or has
he got to take a hammer to the pc? lol
Thanks

Sacha

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
