[pchelpers] Message Meaning: svchost.exe connection

When I connect with the Internet, Sygate Firewall asks if I want to
permit a programme to access the internet. It usually two messages,
to wit:

Generic Host Process for WIN32 Services (svchost.exe) is trying to
broadcast to [to 239.255.255.250] using remote post-1900 [SSDP-
Simple Service Discovered Protocol]. do you want to allow this
program to access the network?

Another of the same ilk asks to connect to another location.

Recently, because of a computer hard disk drive failure, I was thrust
into the arms of MS XPpro. This operating systemand does lots of
remarkable things I'm unfamiliar with. Perhaps someone can tell me
whether this is an innocent connection being made by svchost.exe,
or not. Any background appreciated.

Bye for now,

Bill in Toronto

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
