Sometimes a 'sticky' mouse can grab some folders and move them into
another folder.  If you are not watching closely you won't see it.  Try
doing a search for one of the emails you know was there and see if it
pops up somewhere.

Are you on a network where others have access to your computer?  Do you
sign on with a password with individual settings checked?   And most
important so you back up your folders?  The answers to these questions
would help in answering your 'cry for help'.
