This may be what fixed mine (but newer instead of older); I don't
recall offhand installing a newer NIC driver, but I wouldn't be
surprised if I did.

You set the router to static?

You have a modem, router, and at least two computers, right? If you
set the Windows settings on the computer to static (using an IP
similar to that assigned by DHCP), it should work fine; little or no
need to change the router, which you already know is working ok (the
other computer). If you actually changed settings on the router, I'm
curious as to what you did.

Hmm, it just occurred to me that I made a similar change some time
ago; I keep my local IP static, so that I can remote-access my system
by IP address via a VPN; I noticed that it was DHCP, so changed it to
static.

I don't understand why any of these possibilities would cause the
browser, IM, and email to die at different times, though... :(

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
