It's a low-end system, nowadays; if it comes without software and is
on sale, it might be about right.

$ 76.00 "Athlon XP Palomino 2000+ 1.67G Retail"
$ 66.00 "ECS L7VMM2 socket A m.b. DDR 266 A/V/L"
$ 42.00 "Lite-On 16x DVD Retail (cream/white)"
$ 34.00 "256Mb DDR PC2100 266Mhz"
$ 72.00 "Seagate 40Gb 7200rpm U100 HD" or "WD 40.GB Hard Drive U100 7200rpm"
$ 13.00 "Mitsumi Floppy Drive"
-------
$303.00

If it's a brand name system, the parts would be bought at bulk rates,
and thus would be noticeably cheaper. If they're trying to move old
inventory, then $279.99 sounds reasonable. The prices that I quoted
are wholesale prices for individual items.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
