Wow! What did the Mandrake user group say about that? I think i will 
research this old problem of yours even if it was a rare problem and 
even if i get SUSE or some other Linux version. Are you sure this was 
not a problem of Windows all by itself? How do you know that Linux 
caused the partition's corruption?

Do all Linux versions (distros) help you physically move the old stuff 
neatly into one part of the hard drive before making a new partition for 
themselves, as SUSE apparently does automatically? (I guess it maybe 
doesn't actually start Windows's defragmenter, but it apparently tells 
you to do so.)
