[pchelpers] Re: Linspire

Bob

We are Linspire/Freespire distributors here at Tasana and I have tested =
it
to the limits
It has several +'s and -'s
+'s
It is the easiest OS in the world to use. It is easier then any Windows =
OS.
Installing software is a 1 click end over, no questions what so ever,
removing software is just as easy.

The programs for Linspire top 2,000 and many are free.

Support for Linspire is good

Has a very nice GUI

-'s
Defaults to root for every user

In extreme testing similar to what many end users would do it locks up =
quite
a lot

There are few options to help get out of some lockups while =
multitasking.
There are ways to get out, but data loss is still a concern.

It does not handle the MBR as nicely as SUSE and several other true OSS
Linux distros.

If I had to suggest a distro of Linux I would suggest the Enterprise =
distro
of SUSE. You can d/l SUSE 10.1 for free from Novell site, however you do
have to dig for the link.

One of my friends pointed to Freespire as a way to go to beat the high=20
cost of Microsoft.

My question is; do any of you have experience with this OS? For=20
someone who uses the computer and the internet mostly for comunication=20
and some business transactions, is this a good choice? Or are there=20
hidden dangers we should be aware of?

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
