Hi, I got a weird request from ZoneAlarm today.
LSA shell (export version) wants to accept connections from the
internet.
(the address is below, I did a whois on it.)
The ZoneAlarm pop up recommended I deny it. But when I clicked on
more information (in the ZoneAlarm pop up), I got a page from ZoneAlarm
saying ...
LSA Shell (Export Version) wants to accept connections from the Internet
or your local network
ZoneAlarm Pro is asking you whether to allow this program to act as a
server--that is, to accept connection requests from other computers. No
breach in your security has occurred. *Your computer is safe.*
What should I do?
Give LSA Shell (Export Version) permission to act as a server. See the
Details tab to learn how to do this.
Why?
LSA Shell (Export Version) (file name lsass.exe) is a component of
Windows NT and 2000 operating systems that helps administer access
permissions. It sometimes needs to act as a server to perform legitimate
tasks. It is normal for this program to request server permission, and
it is safe to grant permission.
WHOIS Record For
*69.248.122.111*
*Record Type:* IP Address
Comcast Cable Communications, Inc. JUMPSTART-4 (NET-69-240-0-0-1)
69.240.0.0 - 69.255.255.255
Comcast Cable Communications, Inc PA-27 (NET-69-248-0-0-1)
69.248.0.0 - 69.248.255.255
I hope this email is readable. I pasted in some html off the websites.
I denied the request of course, since I don't know why it wants access.
I wasn't
using my PC when it happened. I was capturing some TV, set up the capture
then left. When I came back to turn off the capture, it was there.
My question is: Is this someone that has access through Comcast trying
to access my PC?
Or some cable thing? I don't know why it would be since I'm using Charter.
And how are they using LSASS?
I'll do some research on the web tomorrow, but if anyone knows off hand,
or knows of
a URL that has the info, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Mandi

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
