I saw two computers where the user deleted the file, and they suddenly started having all kinds of strange problems. The antivirus sites agree that deleting the file isn't supposed to have any adverse effects, so I don't know what was going on; maybe they inadvertently deleted something else also. All I know is that it took an unreasonable amount of time for me to get those two computers to work properly again. The point was, instead of believing the antivirus software that they paid money for, they believed a chain mail from, well, who knows who it was from? If it had originally been from an agent of, say, Saddam Hussein, etc., they certainly wouldn't be advertising that fact, would they? A little bit of malice goes a long way, and there's enough going around to keep everyone on the planet hopping, and the people who hop the hardest are the ones who believe something that they have absolutely no reason whatsoever to believe. This is a definite case of "you get what you pay for". There's little point in paying for antivirus software if you're not going to believe it. I occasionally see programs that tell you to disable antivirus software before installing. DON'T. If it doesn't install properly with the antivirus software running, then there's a problem somewhere. At work, EVERYTHING we install is installed with the antivirus software running. I do the same at home. If you run into a problem, and can't get it resolved, get in touch with the antivirus company to see what they say. -- --Scott. mailto:Wizard@xxxxxxxx Regards, John Durham (list moderator) <http://modecideas.com/contact.html?sig> Freelists login at http://www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/lsg2.cgi List archives at http://www.freelists.org/archives/pchelpers PC-HELPERS list subscribe/unsub at http://modecideas.com/discuss.htm?sig Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
