I saw something similar a couple of weeks ago. I was having trouble
getting a time clock to work with my computer, and the company tech
had me go to a third-party web site and accept an ActiveX control, and
she was then able to control my computer, making the changes needed to
get it to talk to the time clock.  I thought it was pretty
interesting.  It's web-based, so there's no problem with standard
consumer firewalls.

This sounds basically the same, except someone doesn't need to be at
the remote system.
