[pchelpers] I too would like an opinion.

As Scott and many of you know I am in the market for laptop. I have
been for a long time because right when I was almost ready to get one
Vista had come out and taken over the market and it made me put the
brakes on. But doing so, I lost the chance to get a lot of good 'close
out deals' on windows xp laptops.
I know people have opinions on xp vs. vista.
Scott is saying to get Vista. Some others are saying to avoid it.
I'm leaning toward avoiding it because I don't really have a lot of time
right now to troubleshoot all the issues I may get using it.
(like syncing my pda for example) And that being said, I really like
windows xp. (But I do know that in upgrades sometimes are inevitable.)
So I hate to sound wishywashy... but I still don't know what would be
the best for my needs.
I do know I need a large hard drive! That is a given.
I want something 'fast'. I don't want to have memory issues.
The laptop I have gets very hot. I don't want that. I always have it
sitting on a Targus pad.
My laptop is basically falling apart so I am HAVING to get serious about
purchasing another laptop.
The laptop was in 'the accident' and at the time appeared to be unhurt.
But it was. It later got some cracks and now one side is off the hinge
and I have to keep trying to sit it on the hinge. I can 'lift it up'
but try not to. It is chipping away where the hinges are. It does not
lock when it closes now either. As you can see, it's seen better days.
Plus it has a very very small hard drive. I have to constantly use an
external hard drive to transfer things over just to have a little
'working room'. That is a pain.
I know I've talked about getting a laptop in the past.... but I'm REALLY
in the market now.
I know you can get some refurbished xp laptops at Dell.
I even noticed a few Toshiba ones with xp on the Office Depot website,
but I liked the specs of the Vista ones better.
Basically I am wanting the most bells and whistles for my dollar. If
anyone has some suggestions or recommendations, feel free to email me
about it off list if you don't want to clog up the list about it.
Thanks. (It's late so I probably didn't say everything right.)

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
