[pchelpers] I thought this is worth reading for those who have windows xp

Good question
I recently purchased a new computer that has Windows XP as its OS. I didn't
get a set of recovery discs like I did when I purchased my old Windows 98. I
know that XP has a special recovery program in it, but what happens if a
virus gets loose and affects that program? Or something goes majorly wrong
with my hard drive? I'd feel much safer with a recovery disc. How do I get
one?"

Answer

The recovery system in Windows XP is far superior to previous Windows
versions. In order to restore Windows XP, you need the original Windows XP
CD-ROM. You will also need to create a Recovery Disc.

To do so, you need to run the Backup utility. You can find the backup
utility in the Start menu: go to All Programs, Accessories, then System
Tools. In the general window you will see the "Automated System Recovery
Wizard". The wizard will back up all your files and create a recovery
diskette. If you ever need to use it, simply insert the Windows XP CD-ROM
and reboot your computer. The CD-ROM is bootable.

Once the computer has booted, you will see the option to automatically
recover your system. To always have a current recovery disc, create a new
one on a regular basis. If you use your computer often, doing so once a
month will do. Keep in mind that your data should be backed up more often.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
