[pchelpers] Re: How hot is to hot

PC
This months issue of Maximum PC has a great article of computers and
heat, they use a thermal camera and put three computers under extreme
stress. The hottest point in a computer (if the proc has a heatsink and
fan) is the voltage regulator field next to the proc, some newer boards
now make fans just for that field of caps. As for the HDD temp a lot of
factors come in to play, but putting a fan near it to direct air over it
should be good enough.

Subject: [pchelpers] How hot is to hot

I changed my Hd on my internet server from a IDE (which was going bad)
to a SATA.

I then notice that the drive was idling at 116f and 127f
when burning a cd.

I installed a HD fan and now its running at 86f and 96f under load.

What is a normal temp for a HD?

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
