        Clifford, before you get to drastic with your system you might I
recommend you try a couple of things. 
        1. Of course do a backup
        2. Removed the USB Scanner  physically and delete it from the
software
        3. Drop the system, reboot and then do a defrag against the Hard
Drive. 
        4. Bring Windows back up and see if the problem is gone. 
        5. If it is then re-install the scanner
