Hi folks,
I'm sure that most of you know one or more well-meaning but
inexcusably gullible people who pass on the worst drivel without a
single thought as to the truth of the material, or worse, sends it
"just in case it's true".
This is a note that I just sent to someone that I know. I may not
hear from her again, but I don't want potentially LETHAL advise being
sent around.
************************
Hi,
I'm sorry about being so blunt, but you need to stop being so
gullible, and stop passing on this so-called "news" that you keep
sending. Read the pages below on the subject, and hope that none of
the people that you pass this on to actually try doing it WITHOUT
supervision from a physician. It's SO EASY to verify that these are
junk that even a child can do it. I just go to HTTP://WWW.SNOPES.COM
and type in some key words (COUGH HEART in this case), and if I've
made a good selection of key words, the article that I want is the
first or second one.
There's an even better way: IGNORE such messages entirely. I *never*
send on such messages. SO FEW of such messages are actually true that
it's not worth the bother of checking, except that I don't want others
(like you) to be taken in by such drivel. Unfortunately, you're still
sending them.
If you have the slightest concern for the people whom you sent this on
to, then you'll contact them quickly and tell them that it is
INCORRECT and DANGEROUS info and that they should ignore it. The
articles make it clear that this advice could actually kill someone.

"We can find no record that an article even resembling this was
produced by Rochester General Hospital within the last 20 years.
Furthermore, the medical information listed in the article can not
be verified by current medical literature and is in no way condoned
by this hospital?s medical staff. Also, both The Mended Hearts,
Inc., a support organization for heart patients, and the American
Heart Association have said that this information should not be
forwarded or used by anyone."

"It's right up there with voodoo as far as I'm concerned," says Dr.
Cary Fishbein, a cardiologist with the Dayton Heart Center.
http://www.snopes.com/medical/healthyself/coughcpr.asp
"Rather than risk killing yourself with cough CPR, those
experiencing a heart attack should heed the advice of physicians
the world over ? down a couple of Aspirin as an emergency remedy."

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
