In this case may I suggest using an antivirus other than Norton, since 
it can be disabled by some more recent infections? It may also be 
advisable for a tech to 'passive scan' the drive. That is where the 
drive is slaved to another system and scanned for nasties. Doing this 
renders them inactive for the scan operation and is much more likely to 
clean the system out than just Norton. As an example of how bad it can 
get, a customer brought me one last week. After days of work on it, I 
discovered it not only had a multiple infection of Sasser.E, but many 
other minor virus infections too. In addition it had multiple copies of 
Alexa, and other spyware. During the normal scan and clean operations, 
both were multiplying and slowing the system down. I was really glad to 
be finished with that one!
