[pchelpers] Re: Head banging time

A co-worker certainly has been banging her head with her computer (Gateway)
ever since she downloaded Spy Sweeper. She almost installed Window Washer
with it but hasn't yet.

Her browser (IE) got knocked out. She can go to her Network in the control
panel and reach the pages she wants, but OE isn't allowing her to follow up
on mailing her college material in.

She's quite frustrated since she works two jobs plus taking more schooling,
lives a distance from everything so has much travel time on the road so she
doesn't have time to do much checking and fixing.

She was on the phone with a tech in the Philippines who was in a different
time zone so when he didn't mind doing something for another hour, she said
no as it was already 1 a.m. and she had to get up at 5 a.m. for work.

I asked her again this morning what she had done prior to the problem.

She said she lost Explorer and the tech said probably spyware, so download
Spy Sweeper and just keep checking.

Nothing has showed up. She said she has Norton Antivirus and Windows XP.

I think we need to have a pity party for PcCowboy. This security thing
surely is full of unseen traps and despite the necessity of the protection
it certainly can cause some difficult problems.

Worked on a good one today. Came in with messenger unable to connect and
1 webpage that 1/2 the links
didn't go anywhere. The webpage was the login page for Hotmail. You
typed in your address and password,
but when you hit submit it went right to "page not found" in a instant.
There wasn't time for it to really send the page.
Also 1/2 the links on the page did the same thing. I also found that the
window update page wouldn't work. Kept
coming up with an error.

I tried checking all the IE settings. Then I tried the IEFix tool for
XP. Then I removed IE, rebooted and reinstalled it.
Nothing worked. Now I did a Repair Install of XP. Still nothing.

Thats it, forget IE, I then install Firefox. Hit the icon and up came
the message" Connection refused" Now wait a min.
I have never found anything that stops Firefox. So I'm sitting there
staring at the desktop scratching my head wondering
what is going on here. Then i saw it. It was a little icon hiding up in
the top left hand side of the screen.
Norton Internet Security. I thought "no way"

Clicking on the icon brought up this message. "Trial Version has
expired" I uninstall the program and everything
started working. Even messenger. There were about 10 pop-ups wanting to
add her to thiner contact list. Being the
nice person I am and being in such a good mood I OKed every one.

What a waste of 4 hours.
