Do you know what brand the drive is? Many laptop drives are Toshiba or
Hitachi - Hitachi/IBM has a drive test (non-destructive unless you let it
repair something) for free - on floppy or bootable CD. Use google to search
for IBM Hitachi drive test if yours is one. If you can't find out from the
boot screens then open the bay for the drive. If the drive is hidden inside
and you have no idea how to get at it let me know the model (pavilion or
omnibook and the number) as well as the product ID (usually one letter, 4
numbers then a letter or two - if it ends in AR then it's a factory refurb,
A alone means first time sale from new stock). I have access to the service
manuals for most.
