I did try it in Windows 2000 again and it didn't show up there either.  
So, since there was very little on it to begin with except a few 
programs I wanted to import into XP, I decided to format the drive.  
Right after that, the drive became functional again in both computers.  
It shouldn't be failing as it's only a few months old (although I'm 
aware that's no guarantee), but just in case, I should still do a 
diagnostics scan on it.
