Steps 4-7 shouldn't be necessary; as far as I know, all "Populate"
does is provide information, it doesn't actually *do* anything.

The part that I didn't understand was that the drive used to have a
partition that was visible under Win98 (or ME or whatever). It should
have been visible with XP also.
